Today's show features the recording of a Sept. 12, 2010 teleconference call in which Dr. Elam wore her publisher's hat and chatted with Lauri J Owen, author of the new paranormal romance Fallen Embers (Book One of The Embers Series)Lynne Murray, author of the romantic comedy Bride of the Living Dead as well as the award-winning Josephine Fuller mystery novels, and Lesleigh Owen, co-author of Fat Poets Speak: Voices of the Fat Poets' Society, also participated in the conversation.

Fallen Embers features a big beautiful heroine as well as a big handsome hero. It's set in an alternate version of Alaska in which a ruling class of decadent mages have enslaved the shapechanging indigenous peoples. The heroine, Kiera, is transported to this world when she and her nephew are attacked by a strange dog outside their home in "our" Alaska. Kiera soon finds herself fighting to save three children from an army -- and to her amazement, does so by summoning fire.

Before Kiera can find her way home she must learn more about the local systems of magic and her own powers. On whose side should she fight? Whom can she trust -- Marco, the young mage she saves, or fierce and handsome Laszlo, the slave captain of ruling Lord Vayu's army?

Kiera's path leads her deeper into Alaska, to joy and to heartbreak. Choosing to follow her heart may cost her everything.

Fallen Embers is available in original trade paperback and ebook editions from Pearlsong Press and your favorite booksellers. Check out the author's website and learn more about the book's system of astrology-based magic and what powers you might manifest if transported to The Embers Series world!

Pearlsong Conversations are free teleconference calls in which Dr. Elam (and often author and Health At Every Size show co-host Pat Ballard) chat with authors and readers. Peggy (a.k.a. Dr. Elam) & Pat (a.k.a. the Queen of Rubenesque Romances) took Labor Day off, and in place of the live show aired the recording of the August 11, 2010 Pearlsong Conversation teleconference call with Anne Richardson Williams, artist & author of the spiritual travelogue/memoir Unconventional Means: The Dream Down Under.  Peggy wore her publisher hat (as founder of Pearlsong Press) to chat with Anne about using art & writing to transcend traumatic experiences. (Of course she couldn't resist sneaking the psychologist's cap back on to pontificate about research indicating that writing about stressful experiences can be physically as well as emotionally healing.)

Pat & Lynne Murray (author of Bride of the Living Dead & the award-winning Josephine Fuller mystery novels) also participated in the conversation.

For more information about Anne, her book, and her most recent traumatic experience during the May 2010 Nashville, TN flood, click here to read the Pearlsong Press blog post about the conversation. You can also check out Anne's website at http://www.annerwilliams-art.com.
